Poor make-up work and multiple distractions

Early in the movie, I was distracted by Van Johnson's scars. When I googled, I read that in most of Van Johnson's movies post-1941, the make-up people went to great trouble to hide his scars from an auto accident. In this movie, someone didn't do a good enough job.

Also, it seemed to me that not only did June Allyson not look 12 or 22, she looked OLDER than 33, her actual age at the time of this film. With that issue, plus her low voice, it was hard to just 'go with it' and believe that she could pass as a child. Couldn't the makeup people do something to make her look younger?

This was a passable film, and I'm not sorry I watched it, but several times, I just kept thinking about Ginger Rogers in "The Major and the Minor". It's another film about an adult woman trying to pass as a kid, and is much better than this movie in just about every way. The romance in Too Young to Kiss definitely has a creepy vibe, since the male lead seems to be falling for someone whom he believes is a 12 year old girl. In the Major and the Minor, the male lead is more wholesomely protective of the "girl" in question than infatuated with her.
