Is this movie coming to blu ray anytime soon????

I watched the dvd version (the original verson) tonight and it looked great but just wondering are their any plans for a blu ray release.... I am just interested in this version but think have a 3 blu ray set (this version, JC's and 2011) would be cool and let folks see all three together.

I fear there is no Blu-Ray release in the movie's future. (A strange concept for a science fiction movie, isn't it?) But I catch it and once recorded it on DVR on the Turner Movie Channel, and have found it on DVD.

My own thought is that it is a pity that there probably won't be a Blu-Ray version.

That's a shame.

Hell, we can't even get a special edition DVD of this film in Region 1.

What do you think this is, a signature? It's a way of life!

Bluray is avalaible now(from Japan), however it's exceptionally bad picture quality, one of worst i have ever seen. The DVD is just better PQ.
The only upside of the Japanese Bluray is the audio, which is slightly better.
Also 6 minutes is missing, so runtime is 81 minutes unfortunately :(

Yes, we have to wait 2-3 more years, until we get a proper US Bluray from a company, which will invest restoring this old classic.(hopefully 4K remaster).

Criterion please, make it happen!

Posted on the "Home Theater Forum": Here's what Warner Archive had to say a few months ago regarding a potential Blu-ray release of The Thing (1951):

"We would like to. This film presents particular challenges (evident in the master used for DVD) as 35mm elements were cut for theatrical reissue, and we had to use sub-standard 16mm elements to create a complete version in the past. We are seeking 35mm elements of the original version for a Blu-ray upgrade, but the prospects are not encouraging at the present time. Thanks"
