Please smack Scotty....

I had seen this version a number of years ago and thought it was alright. Am re-watching it now and only 30 minutes into it.

But, this Scotty guy is so annoying. All that incessant whining and pathetic attempts at humor. If only the Thing would come upon him. Sadly, I don't recall that happening.

I thought he had the funniest lines in the movie.

After accidentally blowing up the saucer under the ice with thurmite bombs, the men find the pilot frozen under the ice. The lead scientists asks the soldiers how they propose getting him out of the ice.

Scotty sarcastically says, "Use more thurmite!"

He has another funny line later when talking to the men, "You're liable to become famous. So few people can boast that they lost a flying saucer and a man from Mars all in the same day! Bunch of butterfingers!"

I hated him so much when I saw this movie as a kid. As an adult, he's my favorite character.

Yeah I felt the same way. He had a few good lines but also some clunkers and overall it felt forced and/or that he was trying too hard. Is this guy a reporter or a standup comedian?

reply

"Is this guy a reporter or a standup comedian?"

Funny.

But, yeah, everyone else is trying to solve a serious problem and this idiot keeps up with the annoying repartee. If only the thing had done a little blood letting on him :) Alas, after watching the whole movie, I did lighten up just a little bit on the reporter... just a little.

The Press should be annoying. Pity they aren't now.

reply

he was there for comic relief. would have been better without him.
