Why isn't this movie in the IMDB Top 250?

Even though it has an 8.1 rating, which is high enough to be in the Top 250, it isn't for some reason. Why isn't it?

I think they use some kind of formula- saw beauty and beast on their with only 8.0- but also what comes into the equation I think is the number of people who have rated it... Not sure to be honest- but it definitely deserves to be in top 100 let alone top 250- some of the greatest performances I have ever seen

It is now! Albeit 249 😒

It appears the majority of voters are men under 35 (or at least have the movie tastes of young guys) and older movies as a result generally place lower on IMDb than they do on other "best film" websites, especially classic movies were the lead actress has the main role over the leading man.

I am a man, under 35, but i have seen thousands of films (tons if classics) from the 20's untill now. But i wasnt too fond of A Streetcar named Desire.
Certainly a good movie, but IMO doesnt deserve "one of the best films ever made" status.

Wasnt all that impressed by the performances either. I am simply not a fan of Leigh's acting style, in all of the films of hers i feel like she always overacts and is extremely melodramatic, Kim Hunter was just fine, Karl Marden is good in everything he does, but not fantastic. Brando is always fantastic.

I gave it an 8/10, i expected more from such a legendary film

Vivian Leigh simply is the definitive version of Blanche Dubois. She's melodramatic because her character is a manic depressive with illusions of grandeur. Her performance is master class. I've known people exactly like this woman, they're delicate, emotional wisps that float off the ground whereever they go.

She is so overly melodramatic, i got irritated by it soo much. It's so theatrical and ridiculous.

For instance, Cate Blanchett's performances is 10x better in Blue Jasmine (Pretty much an unofficial remake of Streetcar), because her performance is realistic, not overly theatrical

Idk, I thought Leigh was pretty believable as Blanche. I like Blanchett, but sometimes she represents that self-consciously actorly acting that draws attention to itself more than anything. Leigh just inhabits the character, with all her annoying mannerisms and psychosis. The scene where she finally snaps is very well done, ignoring all the obvious differences of acting styles from 60+ years ago.

It has a good rating, but just not enough voters. Apparently that's how it works. And don't get me wrong, this is a fantastic film in every aspect, but.... I dare say the film would have less appeal today if not for Brando.

Anyway, it's no big deal. Many acclaimed films (old and new) are missing from that list.
