Best line ...

"... the next time he runs for something, I'm gonna vote for him !"
No doubt no one on the set (including Ronald Reagan) realized just how prophetic that line was - that they would one day have the opportunity to vote for Ronald Reagan for POTUS !
A serious movie, this was the only line that made me chuckle out loud :-)

*Yes I know - SAG and Cal. Gov. prior but ya know what I'm sayin' ...

I caught that line but it never dawned on me to think of it that way. I guess I was so 'into' the movie and bought Reagan in the role of prosecutor I forgot how the line related to what would come later in his life.

I understood the line the way it was meant in the script. It showed us completely alone he was in that town. His own mother hadn't supported or voted for him then, minutes later, we learn his father had no faith in what he would be able to accomplish either. It was a reflection of how bad things had already gotten in that town.

Woman, man! That's the way it should be Tarzan. [Tarzan and his mate]

I agree. Never thought of the line in that respect. Reagan's character seems very far removed from what he seemed to represent in his political years.
