Ginger Rogers' Whipping Scene
I wonder if she would have been totally stripped to the waist if the film had been made today?

shareIf the film had been made today she would be buck naked and spread eagled--body doubled by Sharon Stone.
....something good had to rub off!

Just saw this flick. The whipping scene was ridiculous ...
1) What's the point? She's already said she's gonna squeal. Can't kill her in front of all those people.
2) Why does the phrase "lashed with a wet noodle" come to mind?
3) I have no doubt the Klan whipped/tortured/murdered, but a white woman, at a huge, PEACEFUL gathering, with so many witnesses and children present? That I highly doubt.
Despite all that, I think most of the dialog, characters, attitudes, and behavior were spot-on realistic.
"Martha Washington was a hip, hip, hip lady, man."
You sure about that? Children were brought to lynchings for picnics and partying.
shareYes, but they weren't lynching any white people.
Which I think was op's point.
I don't know if I would agree with that. Marsha was a real threat so I can imagine they would do anything to contain it. Even if it means torturing someone white.
shareA few years later, the KKK burned buses containing people, both black and white.
And you might remember a few church bombings about the same time.
These people would threaten or kill any race or anyone different from them.
Sound familiar?
Actually quite erotic as it stands
shareI do know that I didnt see any markings. A real whipping would have drawn blood.
shareI wonder if she would have been totally stripped to the waist if the film had been made today?
Oooh, I certainly hope so!
(Yep, I'm a sado sicko pervert.)
All the universe . . . or nothingness. Which shall it be, Passworthy? Which shall it be?
LOL lets face it, she was a good looking woman.
Katharine Hepburn died yesterday; I don't have to believe it if I don't want to.
Broken up by Reagan with a Tommy gun and he looked like he knew how to use it!

Nahhh
that's just Hwood retribution
for the way
G Rogers snubs F Astaire
throughout G Divorcee
Why G Rogers sets the tone
for that condescending cheerleader
in Hwood films
is beyond belief
because you watch old films
to escape from your troubles
And then Do Day
picks up on it from there
to snub
S Cochran
R Hudson
T Randall
D Niven
and everyone else
who steals her films
S Jones
even does it in M Man
to look down on
R Preston
Where's there any entertainment
in that
even D Reed
ignores J Stewart
in W Life
even though it's all a dream
because you just know
that D Reed
would never look down on you
Where were we
oh yeah G Rogers getting all
just to steal the show
G Rogers
does not have to steal this one
because
Do Day
S Cochran
R Reagan
are so bad at acting
that it's already the bag
for G Rogers
and her petite figure
Just that somebodies
out there in Hwood
are already sick and tired
of the way
G Rogers
treats F Astaire
in some of them dance films
that they had to get
some satisfaction here
when there ain't no
satisfaction
for a couple decades by then

♪ Not even Mad Scientists
get it right every time
I kept thinking of Fay Wray in King Kong.
