'Short Round'

Does anybody know whether Geo. Lucas ripped off this character for the second Indiana Jones movie, or was "Short Round" a sort of standard or common nickname decades ago for any little Asian kid who attaches himself to an American overseas in his country?

There was almost the same character in The Green Berets too.

No, different name but the same character.

I thought using the name Short Round was not as much as a rip-off
as it was a nod of admiration to this Fuller classic.
