Very, very good

When approaching earlier and lesser known Bergman films I often get a bit apprehensive that they're going to be somehow disappointing and maybe dent his reputation a bit. Summer Interlude is a brilliant film. A lot of the elements of later Bergman are here and as usual we are treated to a simple story, shot beautifully, that lingers in the memory. I have now seen more than half of Bergman's total output and this film would be very high up the list, probably his first truly notable film (I haven't seen all those before it.)

High recommended.
