Interesting film (possible spoilers)

It perhaps has a new relevance given the awful mess in Syria these days. But apart from that it's interesting to see Bogart and the very beautiful Marta Toren as unambiguous bad 'guys'. There may have been a stirring of nobler sentiments from Bogart close to the end but it's not clear they would have lasted that long. The good guys, the French officers, were trying to do thier best but were also an occupying force.
It's just interesting that they didn't make Bogart noble, if flawed and the bad girl wasn't hiding a heart of gold, and they didn't just impose lines and scenes from his earlier successful film - as so often happened in his later films. It was all oddly satisfying.
