Beautiful B+W

I'm watching it on a non HD channel and the resolution (?) is fantastic! I'm wondering if we are getting a better image on TCM today than moviegoers in the 50s. My theatre in the 50s was the Dreamland on Grand Ave. in New Haven, CT. I remember never sitting too close to the screen :-)

Well nothing compares to film resolution as scene in the theatre. However defects, scratches, hair, normal wear of the film could definitely affect quality and viewing pleasure. Second rate theatres often recieved various aspect ratios. Mind you my viewing experience started with Jaws(art house replay), Smokey and the Bandit, and Star Wars circa 1976-7. I definitely love these beautifully B&W's, especially if restored with wide aspect ratio's. The Criterion Collections are always nice to view.
