Factoid: Miscegenation wasn't illegal in just the south. In the time period in which the movie takes place only a large handful of states allowed interracial marriage--mostly north eastern states. These laws where in effect in the vast majority of states until the years between 1948-1967. The south was the last to give up anti-miscegenation laws in 1967.
