The Secret People - inaccessible?

Given the worldwide appetite for all things Audrey Hepburn, why doesn't this movie seem to be available on VHS or DVD? Is that an oversight, or is there some legal problem impeding its release?

i don't know why it's not released, but (in case you don't already know) there's a website which shows a few of Audrey clips in the Secret People. They are quite good, and audrey does a few dances.

I was wondering this too! I am one of the voracious Audrey fans, and I am quite eager and anxious to watch The Secret People. It's not for sale anywhere in the U.S. from what I can determine (or in Britain?). But people have seen it--and seen it recently too, as evidenced by the recent posts by reviewers of the movie. In fact, one user encourages us to find copies! Please, please, please let us know where and how you viewed this rare gem of a movie. I am very interested in purchasing it.

I used this site. It was mainly in English, took about a week and a half to arrive (to the UK). It is Region 2 and you can't turn the subtitles off. The language is English though.

This is being released on DVD by Optimum in the UK in January 2010.

...And so is [Thorold Dickinson's] "The Queen of Spades". I'd better buy that, too - after finding out how much my US Anchor Bay copy (which I haven't yet got round to unsealing) is going for these days. Is it just me or are out-of-print, apparently scarce and collectible DVDs rapidly rocketing up in value in a way which took several years in the case of similarly rare vinyl records?

This was aired here in the U.S. in August as part of TCM's “Summer Under The Stars” celebration of Audrey Hepburn. I was fortunate enough to get a close acquaintance to tape this for me---plus a couple of other early Audrey films!

For anyone in the right area in the UK, Secret People is currently being shown in rotation with a number of other rarer Ealing films on the London Live channel.
