what does quo vadis mean?

so yea...anyone? great movie though!

It means "where are you going lord?" peter had said this to Jesus when he met Him on the road out of Rome. Jesus told Peter that He was going into the ciry to be crucified a second time, and Peter took this to mean that he would die that way. I hope that answers your question

reply

Drop the Lord part and you have it! Simply "Where are you going"!

reply

Wonder how you pronounce it?

reply

Quo is like the word quote, but without the t. Vadis is VAH DEES.

reply

Thx, Lay, appreciate that.

reply

I think it might actually be pronounced Wah DEES--the 'V' makes a 'W' sound in Classical Latin. The 'V' sound came into use in the Middle Ages, I believe.

"Quo Vadis Domine?" Is the quote you're referring to. The title is a take-off of that.

reply

Peter says it in the movie! "Quo Vadis Domine? Were are you going lord? Where you paying any atention?

You can also hear it in the choral sections of the great score by Miklos Rozsa -
"Quo Vadis Domine? Wither Goest Thou Lord" during the main titles and the beautiful sequence at the end of the film when the staff of Peter blooms. In this scene, the chorus is in two parts - humanity asking for guidance and the Lord answering, in part, with "I am the way, the truth and the life".

"Thus, we began our longest journey together."
