If George had just returned the boat, he'd get off scot free


He'd paid for the boat for a day. So, had George waited for the boat man to go home (wait til 2-3 AM-- he's not gonna wait all night). Return the boat in the middle of the night. In the morning, he'll see the boat was returned and have no reason to suspect that the couple had drowned. No investigation.

It wasn't revealed in the film if Shelley Winters' body had washed ashore, I assume not. The capsized boat initiated the whole investigation.





Religion should be made fun of. If I believed that stuff, I'd keep it to myself. -Larry David
