I hate being a spoilsport

I love this film and Mason's a great actor but...his teeth were horrible!

reply

Agreed. British dentistry at its finest.

reply

They were supposed to be. He was portraying a man of the 16th or 17th Century, when dental work was less than spectacular. The makeup man converted his ivories into the disgusting looking specimens you see in this movie.

For real, or are you pulling our incisors, Dejael? If that's true, it's wonderful attention to detail!

reply

Yes, if you want to see his real ivories, watch one of his classic color movies like NORTH BY NORTHWEST (1959) or JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH (1959).

You just saved my life and my crush on James Mason! Thank you! I was thinking that, but then there like that in the modern scenes so I thought maybe they were like that. But, of course, the Dutchman never changed from the 17th century.

"Of course it's me, who were you expecting?"

reply

I think Mason's teeth were always uneven, especially the bottom set (he went to Hollywood, too late). In B&W or with clever camerawork it wasn't so noticeable but in this film we see, as it were, through a glass darkly. I very much doubt they were made up to look worse than they were.

reply

How about Ava's moustache? Or was that merely an opticalillusion?

reply

Have to say I noticed his teeth as well. Almost like a rusted, ragged tin-can.

reply

Looked like the piano keys from a saloon.

reply

almost all British have horrible teeth.

reply

'Uneven' teeth are not the same as unhealthy. Teeth can be misaligned and yet still be clean and healthy.

reply

What absolute rubbish.
