is that the best print Kino could find?

DVD had great color transfer but apparently film is in need of restoration - perhaps we will never see a perfect version. skips and scratches may be impossible to fix. what a great movie.

It is hard to make a perfect version of a film that is so old.

A remake with Orlando Bloom? - please don't make me vomit!!

Believe it or not, the print TCM shows is far better. For example, the lovely jade earrings she wears in the scene after she's had her wedding gown fitting (when she's wearing that gorgeous pink/black peignoir) are beautiful, bright green in TCM's copy, but virtually black in Kino's.

I'd agree - my husband bought this for me for our anniversary last week and I was disappointed (but tried to hide it!). However the British Film Institute are currently showing a recently restored version. Check it out if you're near London. Hopefully this means a DVD will follow...

Never been alone with a man before, even with my dress on. With my dress off it's most unusual.

mancunia - you are in luck! KINO Video just announced that a newly restored print is set to be released in high definition on Blu-Ray and standard DVD in a couple of months. Watch for it!

Hello there,
I have just bought from Amazon UK a region2 DVD of Pandora(I am in the UK).Having watched it I can only say that it must be a restored version,as the colour is the same as the cinema version (or rather the TV version as I have never seen it in the cinema).
Not only that but the DVD has the following extras:~
Original Hedda Hopper Trailer
Original B&W trailer.
2010 Theatrical Re~release trailer.
Vintage Short Film "Death of Manolo" 1946.17 minutes.
Alternate Opening Titles.
Gallery of Original Production Documents.
Gallery of Images.
I haven't ploughed through all the extras so can't say what they are like, but they look interesting!
At last I can watch Pandora in full(unscratched etc) colour.
This movie is really a unique one off.
PS:~
This DVD version has just been released under the Park Circus/ITV Studios label, but may be under another name where you are?

I just watched the restored version on TCM tonight. It was restored by George Eastman House...they did a fantastic job. Beautiful film, especially that black dress!

I am watching this film right now on TCM and the color seems so intense and bright it almost looks as if it is a color Kinescope, almost like watching a modern TV show. Seems odd for a 60+ year old film.....

It was 3 strip Technicolor which was was lush and vivid

It's on TCM again now. Looks great.

My Park Circus copy is not much better. One would think paying a good price for a film you adore would entitle you to better quality, but the pink faces in my copy, make it distracting to watch.

Watched it again last evening, and the day-time shots are all superb!

However, the night shots are too dark to even begin to see, and are filled with streaks and scratches, which also 'pop' on the soundtrack.

I used to have this on VHS, years back, and I thought that the "darkness" was just a glitch in the recording....so, when I purchased the new DVD version (from Kino) I had hoped to be able to see all that I had hitherto missed....but it was not to be!

Oh, well....

Ava is gorgeous, and Mason is sombre and magnificent. That's the main thing.

The Opener of the Way is waiting....
