Great Doris Day film

I loved this film eversince i saw it as a kid. Doris Day & Gordon MacCrae were excellent in it, they had good on screen chemistry. By the light of the Silvery Moon, the sequel was also very good. The Wesley Winfield character is hilarious as the mischievious brother.

I agree. This is a great movie, and can always cheer me up, no matter how I am feeling at the time. Many people name great teams that had wonderful chemistry, but Doris & Gordon are rarely included as they should be.
Billy Gray, who plays Wesley is also perfect. I've read the books that the two films were based off of, and I must say that he did a wonderful job translating the character. Some of his lines are actually right from the book. However, I like Doris' character better in the films.

This film and the sequel are light-hearted, refreshing bits of escapism from seemingly a gentler era (in Hollywood's hands anyway) and certainly a gentler film-making era.

I note the IMBD reviewer doesn't think much of the songs.

They are marvellous: they have a tune you can hum to (unlike most of today's output) and words that can be heard.

This is a great movie,I need to see it again soon.

This was indeed a good film, a very nostalgic look at a particular time in our history done with humor and a little drama.

Doris, who turned 92 on April 3, 2016, was one of the most versatile and talented performers Hollywood ever produced. "You have stolen my heart"...yes you have, Miss Day!

Yesireeee!

They really did a great job with this film! The dialogue and storyline is more clever than I thought it would be.

On Moonlight Bay was a well-written whimsical comedy with various witty uses of innuendo. Enjoyed the characters' interactions and mannerisms playing off each other.

It really is a great movie. Have you seen the sequel By the Light of the Silvery Moon? Let us know what you thought. I loved that one as well.

reply

I have never seen the sequel, need to look for it!

reply

I disagree. I thought the Wesley Winfield character was very annoying and deserved a boot in the a**!

I agree, lying to his teacher about his family. Goofing off in class, and shooting spit balls at the graduation was rude. But Billy Gray was a good child actor.

To be fair- Bill was talking like a pompous prat! No excuse I admit.

I saw it years ago, and just rewatched it. Sweet, cute film.
