Great Movie

I love this kind of movie. Big fan of black and white 1950's, mostly British. I'm sorry that I only got in when it was almost over. I got to the part when the tall thin man was harassing the wife. The ending was a bit "how's your father".

SPOILERS!!!!

I think a bit more drama at the end would have gone down better. The race against the clock to get the new evidence out and the inspector who maybe gave false information to the press regarding the hanging to bring out the real killer. Strange that Rex Harrison's character was going to be hanged but the real killer got off with life in prison. Was this the time when capital punishment was slowly being stamped out? I love Lilly Palmer and to think that Rex Harrison dumped her for the dying Kay Kendal. Hope it comes round again so I can watch it fro the beginning.

The whole movie ended up appearing to be some sort of anti-capital punishment contrivance.

I didn't think it was great. It was rather interesting how much of the narrative seemed to be told through Mary's eyes rather than Arthur, which is a little unusual. At the same time she just appeared to be too angelic, not harbouring the slightest degree of bitterness about her husband getting involved in a tawdry affair and subsequent murder charge.🐭
