The film has the 'ficticious story' disclaimer

At the beginning of the film, in the credits, there is the disclaimer that "The story all names characters and incidents portrayed in this production are fictitious. No identification with actual persons living or dead is intended or should be inferred."

Can somebody shed some light on why that's in there?

It could be that the studio was trying to avoid a Copyright infringement in some way.

Actually, I've done a little reading on that and I think you're right. Something to do with getting a character's traits wrong or using composite characters, etc.

It still doesn't seem accurate, though.

I doubt that there was actually such a disclaimer. The piss-poor grammar alone makes your "quote" highly suspect.

I own a VHS copy of this movie and TongueFu's mean-spirited comment made me curious. I just watched the opening credits and can verify that the disclaimer is indeed there, EXACTLY as quoted (piss-poor grammar and all) by ejunkmail.

What's wrong with the grammar?

Why would someone lie about it?

You doubt that there was? It's never a smart move to point out bad grammar, using bad grammar. I'm sure you meant to type "I doubt there was actually such a disclaimer". Adding the word "that" is wrong, serves no purpose, and makes no sense.

Additionally, the disclaimer is there, so your piss-poor addition to the discussion failed on a minimum of 2 counts. It would have served you better, had you remained silent.

A few years ago they would say "based on a real story/person". Now they say INSPIRED BY ......

You know you should surrender
But you can't let it go...

For one thing the age of his sonwhen he dies is way off. He was only a year old, and they had a daughter first. But I guess the screenwriter wanted to change things for dramatic purposes
