Films as moving as this one...

Suggestions?

I personally haven´t found a movie as moving/sad as this one.

Some of my personal suggestions...

Basically anything by Tarkovsky, especially Zerkalo and Rublev

La Strada (Fellini)

Ordet (Dreyer)

Mat i Syn (Sokurov)

Los Olvidados (Buñuel)

Ali: Fear Eats the Soul (Fassbinder)

You should look into Vittorio De Sica:

Bicycle Thief
Umberto D.
Shoeshine

Also Bresson:

Au Hasard Balthazar
Pickpocket
Mouchette

From the above the two most similar to this film are Mouchette and Bicycle Thief.

I second the De Sica recommendations. Nobody pulls the heart srings quite like he can.

Obviously you're not a golfer.

Maybe Ponette, only because the director manipulated the child actress just as much as Fossey was manipulated. It is also tragic because of what happened to the actress who plays the mother in real life.

Completely agree with you Aurelie..i believe that this movie was created before it's time. The raw feel of the characters makes me wish that I could have been on set while this movie was filming.
The best part is the father-son relationship. How funny and amusing...

I agree this is a very moving film. Quite simply it ranks as my favourite film of all time (shame I'm having a hard time tracking it down on DVD)

My top-rating movies, alongside Forbidden Games, would be "Sundays & Cybele" and "Rapture" (both starring the remarkable Patricia Gozzi).

There's a lot of great movies from Iran that have been very sad. The Cow (Gaav) and The Cyclist come to mind. I like A Taste of Cherry and I do think that it is very sad but it might be a bit boring. Pickpocket is an excellently sad movie. Leopald by Visconti is sad and an excellent movie.

If you loved Jeux Interdits, you will also enjoy the greatly affecting and hearlded "Pather Panchali" by S. Ray from India. Great stuff.

Empire of the Sun is a great one.

Would you classify that as a launch problem or a design problem?-Real Genius
