Throssel; Other Characters

The actor who played Throssel, the so-called friend of the Pettigrew family and Helen's suitor, really did a fine job in the role. Throssel was one of the most obnoxious and unlikable characters I've ever seen in a film. And I assume he was supposed to be that way, so we should credit minaly the actor who played him (Raymond Huntley)as well as the director or writers.

On the other hand the actor who played Tom presented his character as a likable rake. Kate was on the obnoxious side, while Helen was just sweet, intelligent and delectable. The actress who plyaed Lady Anne was alos good, but her accent was such that I could not understand her some of the time.

Tyrone Power looked perfect in the role and did an excellent job. His coat and boots really did look good on him (lol).

Raymond Huntley had a long career playing nasty SOBs. I guess it was just his face. In The Green Man, he was a cabinet minister marked for assassination. One roots for the assassin. In Night Train To Munich, he plays a low level nasty Nazi bureaucrat who has screwed up and let an English spy in. The spy works his way up the chain of command and fools everyone. When the spy is found out, the recriminations work their way back down to Huntley. "You know what this means?" asks his boss threateningly. "Yes, I shall have to fire my secretary."

Tom, the dissolute brother was played by Dennis Price well known for his portrayal in Kind Hearts and Coronets of a scoundrel who kills seven relatives in order to succeed to a dukedom. Tom was, by comparison, a pussycat.

Thanks for the info. Very interesting. Huntley did seem to have the kind of face that did not seem friendly (lol).
