Better S.F. car 'chase' than BULLITT !!

... And you've gotta love Karin's landing on the sand pile. No: but pretty fantastic San Francisco location photography....

I loved the fare amounts posted on the taxi door.

rpmmurphy, you've gotta be kidding! A single 1950 Mercury convertible out of control going downhill in San Francisco was an exciting scene, but it's no BULLITT!

Yes, that was a neat trick Robert Wise and his stunt crew devised to have the 1950 Mercury convertible take a spill sideways into a mound of dirt, otherwise the lady would have been killed and the story would have been over. And there were no seat belts in cars in those days!

I just watched BULLITT (WB-7 Arts,1968) on TCM again today and it is still as exciting as ever, and hardly seems dated. And the jazz music score by Lalo Schifrin really adds a polished layer of cool to an already cool Steve McQueen movie. I have it on DVD also! I like the way they did the smooth opening titles, the picture is a real textbook example on how to make an action thriller movie, and movies are still made exactly the same way today.

I was kind of shocked when I saw your post-having viewed both scenes, several times, I think the only similarity between the two is that both scenes were shot in San Francisco and car(s) were involved. In your subject line you put "chase" in quotes for some reason-I assume because only one film contained a car chase. Anyway, I respect your opinion, but I think the car chase scene in, "Bullitt" is far superior.

Yeah, that car careening out of control was intense, and almost nerve-wracking at one point! Good hair-raising moments right there!

Nah, you just prefer it. The runaway "chase" scene in this film is thrilling and highly memorable, but better than Bullitt's? It's not even a fair comparison, man. But hey, to each his own.
