VINCENT PRICE!

I must say, watching this film at the beginning, I was considering giving it a 7/10, perhaps a 6/10. But as soon as the action begins, when Price meets Mitchum at the shootout, I couldn't help but be drawn to this film, particularly Price's character! He is by far my favorite in this! I began wondering if I should give this an 8/10, certainly due to Price! But as the film went on, I found myself enjoying this a lot more than I expected, the whole affair of Price & his trusted soldiers attempting to rescue Mitchum w/ his wit, charm, hilarious quips & ham over-the-top bravura just had me in stitches! So now, due to a single actor & his performance, I've given this film a 10/10 rating! Vincent Price is indeed the MAN!

The collision of Price and Mitchum is truly something to behold. I did a writeup about it here–

***SPOILERS***

My favorite scene is the one where Price rounds up some policemen (as if he somehow has become their commander) and loads all of them into a motorboat. He, himself, stands in the bow, cape wrapped around him, like that painting of Washington crossing the Delaware.

And, as they start out, the boat sinks.

I also got a kick out of his facial expressions at the showing of one of his swashbuckling films at the resort

Yes!! Wasn't that funny, the way he sat and stole quick glances at the other people in the audience, all watching his film? Those expressions on his face were... Priceless. lol

I ended up buying this movie solely for Vincent Price. He truly takes this film and owns it. Every scene he's in, he steals.

I love to love my Lisa.

It's especially funny when he applauds at the climax of his fight scene...and is the only one to do so. He sheepishly settles down...

He was great in this wasn't he ? Definitely a different kind of role for him.

I agree. I happened to catch only the ending last night (the sequence on the ship) on TCM as I was flipping channels and Price--with his dramatic cape, incongruous hunting rifle and funny little quips--had me cracking up. Now I want to see the whole thing to enjoy more of VP stealing scenes!

Yes, we end up with a sort of 'Put of the past' meets 'Theater of Death/Blood'.

Price stole the film and his character would later be reprised in a more gruesome way in Theatre of Blood!

Its that man again!!
