Where to find?

Hi. Does anyone know where to find this movie? Facets in Chicago was supposed to get it from Asia, but it's been delayed over 7 months as of now (Dec 2004). Thanks in advance.

That's hilarious. The same thing happened to me. Twice! I reported to Netflix that the wrong DVD was in The Idiots (2000) sleeve. Their instructions are to just put it back in the queue and the situation will be remedied. Apparantly not. I sent an email to customer support this morning asking them if they even have The Idiots, and letting them know they indeed have a copy of The Idiot.

I think it's funny we experienced the same DVD goof up. I think it would be interesting to put a marker of where the DVDs go on the white sleeve. Like write the name of your town or state, kinda like stamps, to see where the movies travel to. Especially the more obscure or cult movies. I think we have established that Netflix only has one copy of a few movies.

You can add me to the list! I reported it mislabeled but haven't returned it yet because I wanted to watch it anyway. I think maybe we should take Idioterne off our queue's until the situation is remedied because it looks like Netflix may have received the wrong order and we'll just get The Idiot again!

It's on DVD in Hong Kong with English subtitles. Go to yesasia.com and type in "japanese masterworks collection" and it'll come up with various others from Oshima, Kobayashi, etc.

"I solved it, I send them back the Disc without the Sleeve with the "Computer Bar Code" I think all they do when they get a movie back is scan it, this way they would have to get a new sleeve for it, I also Taped a note to the movie informing them that is not the Movie I requested, and if they understood english. I notice now they have "the Idiots" in the upcoming release in my queue now. I think Netflix are idiots."

Yeah I also taped a note to my copy too. I'm still afraid to put The Idiots back on my queue. I wrote Netflix an email asking them if the situation has been resolved but they never got back to me yet. According to the Netflix reviews it doesn't look good. Hopefully someone here at the IMDb will help us out and let us know when Netflix will finally fix this error, and so we will know for sure. So anyone? Did anyone receive a copy of The Idiots off of Netflix? Oh and another question, is this version censored like one of the reviews said it was? Because if it is, maybe I won't even bother!

I've just watched part one; liking it a lot so far. Another way of getting this over at www.yesasia.com is the rather spiffy Akira Kurosawa boxset I just got quite cheaply (about $50). It's 9 movies on eleven discs in a big friggin box with the Throne of Blood artwork on it. There's not a single word of english on the box anywhere, but the movies are all subbed. The box also includes the Seven Samurai, Throne of blood, Ikuru, Rashomon and some rarer movies. I don't have the url right now, but search for it with "kurosawa collection". And get it if it's still around. Highly recommended. It's not criterion quality, but the Seven Samurai, for example, looks and sounds much better than the cheap version available here in Scandinavia.

The Romanticism of where the DVD has been I'll totally set sail with; Netflix sort of had this a couple years ago, when they noted where it was sent from. Salem, Oregon was the norm. Columbia, South Carolina the other. These two places were where I would get my selections sent from most of the time. Sure, this would create more of a wait time, but it added to the whole experience, as if I was getting some foreign export.

I just got this movie through Netflix. I was a little wary after the stories I heard above, but they sent me the right movie! The DVD Netflix offers, though not from Criteron, has comparable sound/picture quality and good subtitling. The movie itself is excellent, although it definately is chopped up a bit--it's the 2 hour 46 minute US version, as opposed to the 4 hour plus Japanese original, which apparently has only one exisitng print! So, if you have Netflix, you can finally get The Idiot!

there's a region 2 eureka masters of cinema edition and it's awesome?

reply

THE IDIOT from Eureka, Masters of Cinema edition is NTSC and encoded for region 2. It has new complete English subtitles and restored from High Definition master and it looks way better than any other previous release

This disc will play fine in Japan and anywhere else in the world, except United States and Canada.
Unfortunately the film lovers in US are barred from the experience, unless they buy multi-regional players, hack region 1 player they might have, or use computer for DVD viewing.
