How ironic! SPOILER ALERT

I’m rather annoyed with this movie because it sends a confused message. It purportedly supports the rights of women to have as good an education and as many options as men in their professional pursuits, but at the same time it undermines that message by showing something entirely different.

Aggie, the successful congresswoman who choses career over all else is not very likeable. She is both self-absorbed and self-righteous and not as bright as the character should be. She doesn’t seem to know what she wants but once she decides, she’ll use whatever means necessary to get her way.

I find the photographer Matt to be as annoying; he’s beyond belief. He, too, is willing to say and do whatever he thinks he needs to for the story or to get his own way. While they’re similar, well-suited, and deserve each other, I didn’t like the fact the two of them end up together in the end.

In fact, I don’t like any of the characters except Jim. He’s supposed to be one of the flawed people in the story but I think he’s the most balanced, level-headed one. I’m glad he does not end up with that Aggie but I would have preferred the story focus more on him getting a happy ending. In a way he does but it’s not completely what he was hoping. He wanted a companion.
