Entertaining and important, but too 'newsreel-y'

Definitely should be remade with a sharper edge... The fighting in Italy was especially brutal, as the Germans were then fighting close to home turf.

In a nutshell, I would say this movie was clumsy, but well-intentioned.

I do give high marks to the set designers, while there were scenes where it was obvious they were shooting indoors on a sound-stage, the exteriors had me believing they were really shooting in Italy and France.

Clumsy & well-intentioned works.

It is an important film as it is the first film to address the J/A situation in WW2.
