I met some 442nd veterans...

Back in the Eighties, our Reno casino hosted a reunion of the 442nd RCT. I dealt craps to some of the group. They were a fun-loving bunch and still loved to shoot dice. My mom was a 16 year old peasant girl living behind the Gustav Line, about 50 miles north of Monte Cassino. She wasn't liberated by the nisei soldiers, but I thanked some of the guys anyway. Go for broke!

Hawaii Sen. Daniel Inouye was in the "Go For Broke" regiment; quite a story . . .

One of my college professor (Social Psychology) served with this Regiment during WWII. He spoke of the prejudice that existed and how they had to prove themselves constantly especially once they were attached to the 36th Infantry Division....a Texas National Guard Division. He was quite enlightning and very accomplished including a Divinity degree in Theology.

Mr great Uncle was in Compnay H. of the 442nd/100th Battalion but he died before I had a chance to meet him. From what I have been told he recevied a Silver or Bronze Star.

SPOUNG45, my grand uncle was also in the 442nd. He was actually in the movie at the very end, where they show newsreel footage of Truman greeting the returning 442nd. My grand uncle is the first man on the left in the wheelchair. He got hit by a mortar or something in Italy and lost a leg. His other leg was also injured. He spent months in critical care in Italy before being able to come home.

He was very active for the Veterans. He was probably an organizer of the 442nd reunion hosted in Reno that fgentile mentioned, as he lived out his life in Reno. He loved having guests as an excuse to hit the casinos!
