First half black/white, second half color?

As a child in England, probably no later than about 1952, I watched a main feature about US fighter planes in the Pacific Campaign which started as black and white and at some stage (maybe around half way through) abruptly switched to color. I seem to remember that it stayed in color thereafter.

Color movies were still infrequent at that time and I remember a spontaneous cheer in the cinema when the film changed to color.

Could it have been this movie? I see no reference here to it being a half-and-half movie. Or could it have been a problem with the film copy or the projection which was belatedly solved?
