Bad guy's accent

What kind of accent was the bad guy (Eric) supposed to have? I can't place it. It sounded somewhat "snotty" and "European".

reply

It was faked, that's why you can't place it.

reply

yeah..the accent was obviously faked and I guess they didn't want to single out a specific 'ethnic' group..but to me, James Anderson's accent sounds a bit like
strained French, at times...check out my interviews with Susan Douglas, cinematographer Sid Lubow, Ed Spiegel and sound man Gus Bayz on FIVE in the new issue of FILMFAX out now #119...Paul Parla

He had a really odd voice on top of the faked out accent. It sounded Spanish or French to me. It was bad.

To thine own self be true.

The charachter Eric and his accent represent fascism. The exact nationality is not clear and does not matter.

reply

Bruno, nice to hear that you are Charles Lampkin's grandson. He gave a beautiful performance, and I recall having seen him in much later films. As for Eric, please check out Lloyd Bridges's performance as the Nazi-type climber in "The White Tower" -- 1950 film based on James Ramsey Ullman's 1945 novel of the same name. Very similar characters.

"Neiii Neiuhhh" sounded pretty close to a German "No! Nooo!!!"

reply

"On de beech, I am Espanish. On ze mountaintop, I yam Svedish, ja. In der city, ich bin German."

Clearly, he's just your average generic racist fascist jerk.
