If Mr. Barnstaple supposed to represent greed

why was he only an assistant bank cashier at like age 70. Shouldn't he be the bank president if he represents greed?

What are they doing? Why do they come here?
Some kind of instinct, memory, what they used to do.

What makes you think he represents greed? I saw his character as representing lost dreams due to how we so often put off our dreams till later as we pursue day to day living and then one day realize we are out of time.
