Would never have heard of it it weren't for cable
Perhaps this should have gone in the reviews section but this was one of the first bunch I taped off the air when I got my first VCR & cable in 1984. The old USA network showed this at least 3 times a year. Probably the most valuable lesson here is that people of the clergy are human and are prone to human problems. I don't know how else to put it. I also have some personal experience in that my early grade school (1960-66) and the church were staffed by Jesuit priests. The story itself, the top notch cast and the soundtrack has made it a favorite ever since.
In spite of all that, this film has seemed to have vanished without a trace. I have never seen it on TCM's listings, never had a VHS or DVD release and seldom do the for sale sites such as I-offer see it show up.
