Absolutely Charming!

I did not get to see all of "Excuse My Dust," but what I did see I thoroughly enjoyed. In his younger days, Red Skelton was quite a handsome man. I especially liked the little tune called "Spring Has Sprung" (or something very near that) that Red sang to the lovely Sally Forrest.

It is a comforting thing to know that these light, entertaining films are still being viewed. I have nothing against today's films, directors, or screenwriters. It is just when I am in not the best of moods I do not feel like watching little girls in cars being blown up, somebody's intestines being ripped out of his or her body, or hearing the f___ word screamed out at least fifty times in one minute (as Joe Pesci did in "Casino," an otherwise fine film.)

My favorites of the "good ole days" are "The Bandwagon," "L'il Abner" (1956 version,) "The Court Jester" (one of the most glorious comedies ever made.) I could name more, but I think you catch my drift.

Of the newer films I would have to Include "Shall We Dance?,"* "The Sandlot," and that most charming of all films to this date, "Akeelah and the Bee."

*Yes, I am a fan of J. Lo's, and she did look scrumptious in this film -- especially when she got all sweated up doing a steamy tango with Richard Gere -- but that is not the reason I enjoy this film so much. It is, at least to me, a story of fulfilled dreams. It showed me that no one is too old or too young to have his or her dreams realized.

I own Court Jester and I've watched Li'l Abner recently. I'd like to get a copy of Excuse My Dust, if anyone knows where to get one. Maybe it's on VHS? Let me know. Thanks. [email protected]
