Lee Grant is the only reason to see this movie...

Lee Grant is the only character who makes watching the movie at all, worthwhile, in my opinion. She was funny and she gave us something to actually LOOK FORWARD to, well that and those of us who spent the movie waiting for Jim to get killed, those are the only two things in the movie that make it worth watching at all.

She was good.

She's a delight to watch. I liked the wide-eyed quirkiness and her New York accent. Big fan of Lee, after seeing her in Columbo.
I thought that Eleanor Parker's performance was very moving; and KD was very good as well.

You stupid, clumsy labouring boy.

Parker played the stereotypical meek, breathlessly submissive, characterless woman Classic Hollywood films were infested with. And Lee Grant, although somewhat amusing in spots, was obviously a case of arrested mental development.

I agree that Lee Grant was unique. In this movie she stole the show completely. Her accent and facial expressions were extraordinary.

Well put, novastar, that Lee Grant was the character to hope would keep showing up. She had an odd character to play, did well with it, and gave some relief from several of the other over-the-top performances. The greatest distraction to me was Lee Grant's strong resemblance to her daughter, Dinah Manoff, who had her own screen successes at about the same age that Lee Grant is in this movie. I almost expected Grant's character to reappear in a Pink Lady guise from "Grease." Certain facial expressions, and the voice, are remarkably similar.

reply

Her character was finely done. Very sympathetic.
