The two german generals who forced Rommel to take poison were Wilhelm Burgdorf and Ernst Maisel(as accurately shown in the film).Burgdorf commited suicide in Hitler's Berlin bunker in 1945.Does anyone know what became of Maisel?

Not a great deal of info out there on the general. Axishistory site has him as being captured by the Americans 7 May 1945. Another site (ordersofbattle.com) just states "Nationality : German 16-Sep-1896 -> 16-Dec-1978" - which means he must have survived the war.

In Desmond Young's book on which the movie was based, it is said that he was pronounced "an offender" in Category II of the denazification law, which carried a sentence of two years, but since he had already been held for two years while his case was investigated, he didn't even serve that.

As of the book's publication in 1950, Maisel was living in the American Zone.

He apparently died in 1978.
