This was an good film at the time,but it is way too soft on Rommel who was more of a non nazi rather than an anti nazi I think.
It would be good to see a modern more accurate remake of the story,maybe a 2 header called MONTY VERSUS ROMMEL,I can see one of the FOX brothers playing Monty and Russel Crowe as Rommel?
The problem with americans is, that they just can't make accurate war movies any more. They always have to present them selves or their allies being the ones who constantly saves the day.
If they had to create an accurate movie about Rommel, not a remake, but an entirely brand new movie, who has no similarities to this one, the movie would have to be almost entirely made by Germans at the helm, considering they are the ones, who have all the accurate reports about Rommel and movie reels featuring him on storage and even extremly good actors, who can play german WW2 soldiers extremely convincing.
They are even in the position to ask Bruno Ganz if he would like to reprise his role as Hitler for the needed scenes for the movie. He is the most convincing Hitler i ever have seen in a movie, considering how extremely convincing he is in Downfall.
persen's scenario for an accurate remake is definitely wanted in my opinion. Ganz has to be in it. Who would be a good Rommel, Christoph Waltz perhaps?

Then i would rather see Thomas Kretschmann do it. He has in his past also played a very convincing german WW2 soldier and submarine commander, he could pull it of being Rommel with the correct haircut.

Yes the Fox brothers JAMES (PERFORMANCE)and EDWARD (DAY OF THE JACKAL).
But most of the world does not want to see a German war film,because they danger is that they re write history like DAS BOOT and STALINGRAD.

It is extremly accurate, and very well played. But I don't know if it is avaiable in English.
