Hildegarde Neff

She was great in this picture as the worn out, jaded German bar girl that crosses paths with "Happy."

Ms. Neff later appeared in "The Snows of Kilimanjaro" opposite Gregory Peck.

Did you know that Ms. Neff had an uncredited part in that great war film, "The Dirty Dozen?" I haven't seen her yet but she's probably at the chateau.

No, I did not know Ms. Neff was in "The Dirty Dozen"!

Books written by actresses have become commonplace, but Neff's book printed in 1970 was a must read.

"She published several books. Her autobiography Der geschenkte Gaul - Bericht aus einem Leben (The Gift Horse - Report of a Life) from 1970 was a candid recount of her life in Germany during and after World War II. It became the best-selling German book after World War II. Her second book "Das Urteil" ("The Verdict") from 1975 was a moderate success. It dealt with her struggle with breast cancer."
