Gritty remake.

I would love to see a gritty R-rated remake of this. I honestly don't want to see a remake anytime soon but if they do I think that maybe a fresh idea would to have a completely different tone from the original and I think that a gritty, realistic R-rated tone could really make the film unique and somewhat incomparable to the original.

If the grim reaper ever taps me on the shoulder, some of the first people I'll be going after will be those responsible for the remake of this film ( or any other masterpiece ). Each time I view it, I marvel at its magnificence.

That's exactly what I think. When will Hollywood learn that some movies should NEVER be remade or rebooted. The first version is perfection.
