Cagney's Father Was An Alcoholic

In his autobio, he relates that his own father was an alcoholic and had an extra complication in being an epileptic as well. He died in an asylum. Cagney's mother had to raise the Cagney kids by herself.

I wonder if Cagney drew upon his father's seizures in his portrayal of Cody Jarrett in "White Heat"?
