Help! I missed the ending!

SPOILER ALERT!













Tatum goes back to his office at the trading post and tries to call the New York paper, who fired him. When he gets through to New York, his boss chews him out. Tatum tries to confess to what he had done, but his boss had already hung up.
He and the kid return to the Sun-Bulletin, where Tatum tells Mr. Boot, "How'd you like to make a thousand dollars a day? I'm a thousand dollar a day newspaper man, but you can have me for nothing!" Then he collapses and dies from his wound.

Spoilers: The wife decides to skip town (get a ride/working on it). Word has it the sheriff is going to get Leo out anyway and have a big send off. The parents are devastated. Tatum confesses to the young journalist that he did everything on purpose and was Leo's murderer. Everyone else goes back home.
