That scene took me by surprise. Never expected that reaction in a 50s movie. And I couldn't help but laugh out loud at the comic of it.

It surprised me, too. What made it really work was her flirting with him as she said "Make me." Jan Sterling's reaction was genuine, as Kirk actually slapped her pretty hard...twice.
