This film, which barely broke into a few small art houses in the U.S. was sought out by Bette Davis who called Anna Magnani's performance "brilliant, uninhibited and full of volcanic, earthy power. "

Davis was a great fan of Magnani and some of her own 'over the top roles' deserve a reassessment such as Baby Jane and her much ridiculed Rosa Moline in Beyond the Forest.

I do not have Facebook but I did find a whole series of photos of the two of them together in Rome when Bette was visiting. A real mutual admiration society. Two much star power to fit in one camera lens!
