In the Criterion subtitles, toward the end of the film there is a reference to Noriko's love of Audrey Hepburn. Given that this is a 1951 film, and Audrey Hepburn's career had barely begun in 1951, I was wondering if the reference was actually to Katharine Hepburn. That might make more sense anyway, since it is Katharine who was the model for independent womanhood in the cinema.
Could someone who speaks Japanese either confirm or deny this?

I doubt that Japan would have noticed Audrey much until 1953 -- when her first big hit appeared (Roman Holiday).
The script just mentions "Hepburn" -- but surely the reference at this point is to Katharine.

In the BFI version the subtitles say Katharine Hepburn. She tended to play strong, independent woman, maybe that's the point.
