I was so into this movie! I've been watching a number of Bollywood classics and this was one of the best. But about a half hour before the end, the English subtitles disappeared in mid word. (Shemaroo disc rented from Netflix, tested on two players). [spoiler ahead] It was just as the mother was on her death bed, telling Raj the judge was his father.

Hi, yes, I wish somebody could tell us the end: my DVD had exactly the same defect (and the same origin)!!
sharei'm glad i read the netflix comments first because that would drive me crazy. i guess i'll see this in a few years when a new version comes out w/ complete subtitles.

After his mom tells him that the judge is his father, Raj is taken away to prison. Judge Raghunath comes to visit Raj's mother in the hospital. Her face is covered, so Judge Raghunath does not recognize her as his wife and she dies shortly after. Raj escapes from jail and breaks into the Judge's house and attempts to kill him to avenge his mother. The Judge defends himself and Rita stops them from killing each other. In court Rita says that it's Judge Ragunath's fault for the crimes Raj committed because he threw his pregnant wife out of the house, and Raj grew up on the streets. Raghunath says that there is no proof that Raj is his son. Raj apologizes for his crimes and says that his mother dreamed he'd grow up to be a judge like his father. Then, Ragunath knows that Raj is is son. Later on, he visits Raj in prison and has a conversation with him, and he finally calls Raj "son"
The next day in court Raj is sentenced to three years in jail. Rita visits him in jail and tells him that she'll wait for him.
