Cinematography


One thing which struck me about this film was its overall look; not just the skillful chiaroscuro lighting but what, I'm guessing, was the film stock or possibly lenses which gave a sort of contrasty resolution which seems perfectly suited to film noir. This look seemed to vary, depending on whether the scenes were location or on a sound stage.
Other films which have this look would be Andre de Toth's, "Crime Wave" or Kubrick's (under-rated, I think) "Killer's Kiss".
Here's hoping someone out there will be able to shine a little (chiaroscuro) light on this...
