Is there more than one ending to this movie? I just watched it on TCM and I have absolutely no recollection of Guffy rattling off the names of the former stars, now deceased who might have been the angels supporting the Pirates. Is this the way it always ended?
shareDen - I cannot address an alternate ending to the one you mention, as that was the one I first saw when I watched this film with my dad in the late 60's.
One connection I didn't understand then, but I sure do now, is the cameo of Ty Cobb in the movie. The more serious research I read about Cobb, the more I understand how a certain generation of fans were thrilled to see him, once again.
Guffy walking off reciting those names was the sadness that I took from the ending, which served as a solid counterpoint to the positive of Bridget going home with a new family.
