Sound Fidelity

It is unfortunate that they didn't record the location dialogue and music score in high fidelity and full stereo. That way, they could have remixed, remastered and replaced the soundtrack when technology allowed.

The needed sound technology did exist at the time. You can buy classical sound recordings from the time that were recorded well, and have been able to be remastered to very good sound quality for today.

The soundtrack, although I am sure has been cleaned up and restored as much as possible, is still lacking in fidelity. And, that is unfortunate for what is one of the greatest film musicals ever made.

Yes, most unfortunate.
