A sequel, a spinoff, a spoof

Is this movie a sequel, a spinoff, or a spoof? I'd say all of the above. The movie does have a connection with the first Invisible Man, so it can be a sequel. The movie mentions Jack Griffin and even shows his picture on the wall. The movie is about a different Invisible Man so I guess it can just be a spinoff like the other movies in the series. But then the movie has basically the same dialogue from The Invisible Man Returns and the Invisible Man's Revenge. It's like a spoof of those movies. One way or another, I see this as part of the Invisible Man series.

I think it definitely belongs in the Invisible Man series, just as Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein belongs in the Frankenstein series. According to the trivia page, the original script was a straight thriller; Abbott and Costello were only added in later.

I can see that being the case. There is a serious undertone to this film, and plotwise could easily have been done as film noir rather than comedy.

I think it's more of a spinoff than anything else. Even if it had started out as a serious entry, I don't think an invisible boxer would have worked. It does have the tie-in to the original film, but I still think it's a pretty loose tie. I mean, could you really imagine the slapstick antics of Bud and Lou taking place in the same universe as the one where the original Invisible Man sent a train full of people to their death? It's kinda like having a National Lampoon movie as a sequel to Silence of the Lambs.

In any event, I'm wondering when the Invisible Hamster is going to get its own film.
