Camera Shot

I know this was done around 1951, but I was watching one of the first episode I believe it was "Seeing Eye Suregon" and in one of the scenes, it showed one of the camera as clear as day. It's amazing how early TV was.

I assume for them not to do an edit or re-tape that scene means this show was done live.

No re-takes. The show was shot and broadcast live. Same goes for a lot of Honeymooners episodes.

Yeah, on my first post, I stated that the show most of been done live. I've watched episodes of "The Honeymooners", and unless I never noticed, most of the episodes didn't have too many errors.

Soap Operas which were also done live during the 1950's up until around the early to mid 70's was the same way especially during the 1950's, but over the years they got better with it.

I wish some programs were still don't live.

Some of the Honeymooners had terrible production values, due to no budget. Especially the lost episode series from duMont's Cavelcade of Stars(I believe). Gleason was constantly flubbing his lines, missing cues or ad libbing. The fabric walled sets were known to come apart at the corners, revealing crew members and equipment back stage. They were B'cast live. The only reason they were taped was for the west coast time delay. They weren't even meant to be saved. Fortunately Jackie Gleason was a bit of a hoader, and saved alot of the tapes. No matter what the budgetary restaints, It's still some of the funniest material ever to air on TV.

Yes, I've seen some episode that were horrendous in production value, but that was about 60 years ago; TV was a whole new ball of wax. I know the lost episode you are talking about. I seen it once some years ago on WPIX-11 in the NYC area on one of the New Year's Eve marathons. It's probably on DVD now of course.

Anyways, aside from "The Honeymooners", "Tales of Tomorrow" may have had some bad production, but some of the episodes they had were very creepy, and imagine if the show came out a few years later when "The Twilight Zone" aired, it would of probably been better, and would have actually been sold into syndication like "TZ" was.

Growing up in the 70's and 80's WPIX-11 was the ultimate TV station. They had ALL the best reruns. I still remember the 11pm line-up the used for years. Odd Couple, Honeymooners, Star Trek then two episodes of the Twilight Zone.

I was born in the 80's and remember WPIX-11 during the 90's, and the network was still great up until 1995. The evening time around 6-8 showed some of my favorite like Family Matters, Fresh Prince, Cheers, and A Different World. I first discovered "TZ", and the oringial Star Trek around 1994. It stopped airing on WPIX in '95, although "Star Trek" continued only on the 4th of July for a few years after. In 1995 the network became the WB, and 11 years later the CW, and now it's back to PIX-11, but it's not the same.

Yeah. All those lame new start-up shows on WB11 and UPN9, like Nick Fresno, High-School Teacher. Not a single one of them made it to 100 episodes. That's why they've become distant memories, never making it to rerun snydication. Only Voyager made the mark. Hercules/Xena was on channel 11, but on a non WB night(Sat). It was considered syndicated.

The Honeymooners is still on PIX11 in the middle of the night sometimes. I woke up on it a couple weeks ago.

I used to watch some of those shows on there. Some were pretty good, and there were a number I disliked. I remember "Nick Freno, License Teacher," it lasted less than a season. It was somewhat of a spin off to "The Waynes Brothers," that show was funny when I was a kid. Most of the sitcoms on WB lasted about 5 seasons. I never cared for those nighttime teen drama shows even when I was a teenager.

I remember Voyager, but I never cared for other Star Trek versions. I like the original, and sometimes watched The Next Generation.

Yeah the first two Treks were the only good ones. I especially liked the episodes with John Delance as Q.

I've only watched a handfull of The Next Generation. It was decent, but I'm just more a fan of the 1966-69 version. Sometimes I see The Honeymooners on WPIX late some nights, I saw The Odd Couple and the Jeffersons on late one Friday night into Saturday morning too. Nowadays they show Family Guy, Entourage, and Curb Your Enthusiasm on those late hours. I watch all 3.
