help solve a 15 year mystery? Please

I remember for a sgort time I watched this show, I believe it was in the summer as I was in school and watched it for a period of time. The story that got mesmerized was a think an apartment fire started by a lit cigarette. One of the characters was pregnant and her boyfriend/husband had to escape by going to the roof, something happened and she died from an explosion/childbirth. I don't remember much. I think her name was Maria?

The woman name was Renata, who was married to David Sutton, and I believe the cigarette was from Martin. My friend's mom watch the show from day 1 till that time, Summer of 1980, which she believed they went thru lengths looking for Travis' sister and this is what happened. I think that was when the show started losing viewers, during that year
