Was the show ever colorized?

I might be out of the loop. A lot of World War 2 footage has been colorized. I just think it's odd this show was never updated in the same way.

I believe CBS colorized 5 episodes. Here's a sample:

A few were colorized. But I don't consider colorizing as "updating". It's more like tampering with a legitimate art form.

Of course some people like to see old shows colorized. But it doesn't enhance or improve the storytelling or the comedy.

reply

No, it only ruins it.

I know what you're saying, but the show would be in color had it come out later. The color is good to attact a younger audience.

While the show would've been in color 15 or so years later, that doesn't justify adding computerized Crayola's to a black-and-white classic.

This show was carefully lit, and photographed by the great director of photography, Karl Freund. The sets and clothes were painted a certain way to make the gorgeous, silvery image look as it does.

The fake color looks artificial and tacky. Eyes, in particular, don't come across. In essence, they are defacing the original image.

We would never colorize The Marx Brothers or Chaplin, so we shouldn't colorize I Love Lucy.

As for younger viewers, they eventually learn to eat and enjoy vegetables. They can also learn to appreciate the art of black-and-white film.

Never say "colorized" in front of Gary. 😱

Hi, GB ! 😃

I learned the hard way, lol. Everybody should be as passionate as him. The funny thing is growing up, the tv broke, and had to watch I Love Lucy on a black and white portable tv.

Does everything need to attract a younger audience?

16 Episodes have been colorized so far. They are on a dvd set called 'colorized collection'

They seem to colorize a couple more every year for special broadcast around Christmas time. They'll probably get to all of them eventually.
